Welcome to the Schauinsland!

Float with Freiburg's summit line to 1220 meters above sea level - even with a handicap! Accessibility is important to us. Numerous improvements around Germany's longest circulating cable car have led to us being awarded the "Accessibility Tested" certificate according to the criteria of the nationwide "Travel for All" label.

Guests with reduced mobility

Barrier-free at an altitude of 1200 meters with the Schauinslandbahn. Under the motto "Schauinsland for all", we also want to make it possible for people with limited mobility to climb Freiburg's local mountain. We have already made numerous modifications so that you can access both the buildings and the cabin via short ramps. As a further building block for barrier-free use, the mountain and valley station also offer a "toilet for all" that can be used by people with multiple disabilities. These toilets are characterized by a special closure, a care couch, a person lifter and various other aids. Under detailed information you will find a detailed description of the situation on site. The "Toilet for All" is a project of the Stiftung Leben pur (Pure Life Foundation) and has received financial support. The foundation works nationwide to ensure that such toilets are built in public places. Our service staff will be happy to help and advise you during your stay. You will find detailed information about arrival and departure as well as your individual use of the Schauinslandbahn under Downloads.

Guests with visual impairment

We also warmly welcome blind and visually impaired passengers and their assistance dogs to the Schauinsland. So we do everything we can to ensure that you feel comfortable with us and return home with many new impressions. Our staff will be happy to provide you with information on the subject of accessibility and help you at any time.

The Schauinslandbahn does not currently have a guidance system for blind and visually impaired passengers. We therefore recommend organising a trip on the Schauinslandbahn with an accompanying person. Accompanying persons and assistance dogs are transported free of charge on the Schauinslandbahn.

However, to give you the opportunity to use the cable car without an accompanying person, the Schauinslandbahn offers the following service for your arrival and departure:

  • Assistance for visually impaired guests without accompanying person
